Hi, I'm Kate.
I can be commonly found walking along Victoria's beautiful Coast, in coffee shops writing near said Coast, or in the Martlet's newsroom. I'm in my fourth year of a Political Science degree at the University of Victoria, and I also work as the Web Editor for the Martlet - UVic's Student Newspaper.
During my degree, I started a successful travel blog and wrote freelance articles for over a year. These experiences enabled me to learn an immense amount about creating content that audiences love, and using social media to accelerate the reach and engagement of that content. I doubled my Instagram following in six months and partnered with various publications on freelance content, including the Penny Hoarder and International Living. I've also had the privilege of partnering with local politicians and advising their communication strategies for their campaigns in the 2017 St. Albert Municipal Election.
In January 2018, I moved to beautiful British Columbia and became the Martlet's Web Editor. I'm so grateful that I get to learn more about writing, editing, and social media alongside an exceptional team of student journalists every day.
In my off time, I love enjoying B.C.'s craft beer scene and have been trying to learn to surf (and falling off the board every. single. time.).
I'll be graduating in December 2019 and intend to pursue a career that allows me to continue enacting positive change in my community through communication - both on and offline.
